Policy Solutions Challenge USA is a national competition among teams of students from U.S. schools of public policy, public affairs and public administration to develop innovative solutions to the most important policy problems facing the country. These students represent the next generation of skilled policy analysts, prepared by the schools of public policy, public affairs and public administration to draw upon the tools of economics, statistics, political science, organizational management and law to design new responses to the difficult issues confronting federal, state and local governments. If the U.S. is to thrive in the 21st century, these professionally trained policy analysts must contribute actively to shaping public policy.
Every year, the teams will present their analyses and recommendations regarding the same topic in three rounds of competition. The first round will select 12 semifinalist from among all entries, and six of the semifinalists will be selected in the next round to attend the national finals to be held March 2017 in Washington, DC. Expert reviewers, drawn from the leading policy analysis organizations, will select the semifinalists and finalists. A separate panel of expert judges will participate in person at the national finals.
Policy Solutions Challenge USA will be presenting the recommendations from all the teams to key decisions makers in government to encourage consideration of the new approaches developed by the students. Those recommendations will be posted on this website after the conclusion of the national finals. To view recommendations from prior years, please look under Archive on the top menu above.
